CAMPUS HIGHLIGHTS

Our CS-IRTG program aims to train the next generation of global researchers and doctors in the dynamic fields of basic and translational pathology and oncology.
Here’s why you should consider applying :

Accelerated Research Completion

One of our primary training goals is to ensure that PhD/MD students complete their research within a four-year timeframe. This structured timeline helps you stay focused and motivated, ensuring timely progress in your academic journey.

First-Author Publications

We encourage our students to publish as first authors, providing you with the opportunity to contribute significantly to the scientific community early in your career. Publishing your research not only enhances your academic profile but also establishes your credibility as a researcher.

Top-Tier Joint Education

Our program offers a premier joint scientific education from two of the world's leading countries in medical research—Germany and Korea. This unique collaboration allows you to be co-supervised by principal investigators from each country, enriching your research experience and broadening your academic perspectives.

International Research Experience

Conducting cutting-edge interdisciplinary research in both Germany and Korea gives you invaluable international exposure. You will be granted a total of three 2-month research visits at the partner institution during the program. This experience sets you apart, giving you a head start in your career development and enhancing your international visibility, which is highly attractive to future employers.

Integration of Specialized Expertise

Our program leverages the specialized expertise of the Center for Molecular Medicine Cologne (CMMC) and the Molecular Pathology departments in Cologne, combined with the data-driven sciences from SAIHST in Seoul. This collaboration creates added value by integrating multi-dimensional data (clinical, treatment, transcriptomic, imaging, microbiome, and genomic data) with established research strengths, providing a comprehensive and holistic view of genomically informed oncology.

Broad Education and Interdisciplinary Thinking

While you will become an expert in your chosen research area, our program also implements broader education to boost interdisciplinary thinking. We offer various medically-oriented and research-focused activities, helping you develop a diverse skill set and explore multiple career options.

Holistic View on Cancer Genomes

We take advantage of the significant differences in Asian and European cancer genomes and gender disparities to provide a comprehensive understanding of genomically informed oncology. This approach ensures that our students are well-equipped to address global health challenges.

Focus on Translation and Commercial Transfer

Combining research experiences in Seoul and Cologne sharpens your capabilities and vision for translation. We establish a Scientific Advisory Board with expertise in commercial transfer, including building start-ups and collaborating with pharmaceutical companies, to guide you in translating your research into real-world applications.
